In Neon White, you play as an assassin parkouring through the suburbs of Heaven, killing demons to earn a chance at redemption. The catch? You can either use your guns to mow through waves of demons or sacrifice them for extra jumps, dashes and more to use in your lightning-fast assault. Neon White's gameplay is phenomenal, and I found initial runs of all the levels great fun. However, once you start trying for the better times and medals, you unlock a whole new level of enjoyment - hidden shortcuts, fun ways to use weapons. Neon White kept getting better as I played it more, and the story and whole atmosphere of the game was unique and interesting. The slight visual novel aspect of the game had both highs and lows though. Learning about the character's backstories through hidden gifts in the levels was interesting and a great addition to the game. The dialogue is what brings the game down, and can be outright cringey at some times. As this doesn't detract from the game much at all, I would recommend Neon White to anyone looking for an exhilarating gameplay based experience. The fact that the physical edition comes with a really well-made art poster as well is just the cherry on top!
