I already have a KT17A which I wanted to replace with this model. Connections are identical so this should have just started working when connected. But nothing worked, display was dead and none of the accessory lights were lit. I was in the process of returning it when I noticed on a website someone mentioning there is a capacitor on some boards that can bend and than short against another part, So I opened the case and tool a look and found the 5v regulator to hot to touch when powered just like he said. So I carefully moved the capacitor and now it works fine. A bit of epoxy to keep the capacitor in place and it is usable now.I would be embarrassed if my solder jobs were that bad but it works so it replaced the KT17A.
